The Burden of High Drug Prices
March 23, 20211 Minute Read
Many Americans are struggling to afford their medications, with nearly 1 in 5 households concerned about costs and 11% unable to pay for at least one prescription in the past year. The burden is greater for unemployed individuals, and adults of color in non-Medicaid expansion states are 88% more likely to face medication insecurity. To save money, many skip pills or request generics, with Hispanic and Black adults disproportionately affected. Lowering drug prices and insurance premiums is a top priority for most Americans, yet many feel the government isn’t doing enough. The data highlights the urgent need for policy changes to ease the financial strain of high drug costs, especially for underserved communities.
