October 6, 2022The West Health-Gallup 2022 Healthcare in America Report sheds light on the persistently grim perceptions of the U.S. healthcare system. A staggering 44% of American adults assign it a poor or failing grade, a sentiment that transcends political and socioeconomic boundaries.
Since 2018, West Health and Gallup have monitored these sentiments, consistently finding that a growing number of Americans deem healthcare unaffordable, forcing choices between treatments, basic needs, and accruing medical debts.
The study, encompassing over 5,500 respondents, scrutinizes the system’s performance in affordability, equity, accessibility, and quality. Alarmingly, 75% grade healthcare affordability as a D or F, with one in three giving it a failing grade.
Despite recent federal initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which addresses some Medicare-related costs, the report underscores that the healthcare cost crisis persists, affecting even non-Medicare patients. This comprehensive analysis emphasizes the urgent need for continued documentation to shape policies that enhance the overall U.S. healthcare experience.
